A ball valve is a form of quarter-turn valve which uses a hollow, perforated  and pivoting ball to control flow through it. It is open when the ball's hole is  in line with the flow and closed when it is pivoted 90-degrees by the valve  handle.

Ball valves are divided into two categories, one is floating ball type and  the other is fixed ball type. Ball valves are widely used in irrigation systems  and are mainly used in branch pipes. The ball valve is simple in structure,  small in size, and has little resistance to water flow. The disadvantage is that  it can be turned on or off too fast, and it will be in the pipeline middle water  hammer (the pressure will rise when the flow velocity of the pipe suddenly  changes). Therefore, the ball valve should not be used in the main dry pipe,  which can be used in dry, branch or the end of the pipe to flush the discharge  effect.
